Hey everyone!
Today was a great day. I had great classes today and it didn't seem like nearly as long of a day as last Thursday. I am really loving yoga! I have to do it in one of my classes and I go to morning warm up some days and we do yoga there too. It is so relaxing.
So obviously, today was halloween. Man.... you never forget how crazy New York City is. But Halloween is a whole different level of crazy. I went to the parade with some of my friends. It was downtown like right near ground zero. Oh my gosh.... it was so crazy and chaotic. Fun, but crazy. The amount of times we got chased by hobos tonight was ridiculous. Haha. And terrifying. But it was all good cause we were in a good sized group. Then, it started raining and we had to walk like 10 blocks to find the red line subway. Of course I navigated. Haha. It was just a crazy night. But all in all, I definitely had fun! Quite an experience.
Classes are going great and I am really doing well I think and learning so much. I love it here. I do miss my family, my home, my bed, my dog, basically anything to do with home, I miss. But I know this is where I am meant to be. Speaking of, I am listening to a couple of songs right now and the lyrics are:
"My God's not dead, he's surely alive and he's living on the inside roaring like a lion!"
"I know my God saved the day and I know his word never fails and I know my God made a way for me. It's gonna be alright!"
Perfect words to live by.
Thanks!

Is This Life Real?
Hey everyone!
Today was a good day. I didn't get as much sleep the past few nights because my roommate likes to turn the lights on when I'm asleep when she comes in late. But thankfully Monday and Tuesday are my easy days.
Yesterday we got a song that we had to memorize by today and perform today. So that was fun. I actually didn't screw it up which is great and very surprising to me. Haha. Tonight we had to go to a nutrition seminar and I literally knew every single thing she said. It was great. Every time she would ask a question not expecting anyone to know the answer and I did! I'm an over achiever! Woohoo! Go personal training!
But other than that, I didn't do much today except go to class and take a nap. And watch YouTube videos.
I would like to talk about something though. Fire trucks and sirens in this city. It seems like every day when I walk down the street there is some huge deal going on with ambulances and fire trucks and angry cab drivers all in one scene of action. And the fire trucks are so LOUD! It makes me jump every time I hear one. I walk right past a station every day and it seems like everyday right when I'm walking past it, a truck leaves the station with it's sirens on. Terrifying.
Also, side note, I saw an australian shepherd puppy this morning on my way to class and started crying.
That is all.
Thanks!
Molly

Week 2 of Classes
Hey everyone!
I can't believe that my second Monday of classes is already over. I am getting busier and busier everyday now. I am becoming very good at managing my time. Which I really never thought would happen. Nothing here is overwhelming in the slightest as long as you do it in a timely manner. It is a lot of memorizing but it is so much fun. Tomorrow is my only 8am class of the week. Tap! Hopefully I don't make a fool of myself. We also got our first songs in Musical Theatre today. Mine is called Bells are Ringing from "Bells are Ringing". Haven't listened to it yet because I had a lot of other things to do tonight.
I think one of the biggest things for me is just getting enough sleep. I go to bed super early every night. Like before 10:00. I'm basically a grandma. Haha. But I wake up every morning fully rested and ready for the day!
Tomorrow I am done by 1:30. So that is pretty awesome. I'll probably take a nap.
Besides that, I really haven't done much today except memorize stuff and go to class. No crazy New York stories for today. Except I saw a really cute St. Bernard on the street and I wanted to cuddle with it. I miss my dog so much! I wish she was here with me!
Sorry this post is so short. I really have no exciting news today.
Thanks!

Sleepy Saturday
Hey everyone!
So today I slept until 11. And it was fantastic. Haha. I kept waking up at various times in the morning feeling like I was late for something. I got a great, full nights' rest and laid around all day. Me and some of my friends made pancakes this morning and after I ate those, I practiced memorizing some stuff and then watched the Alabama - Tennessee game. What a great afternoon. Around 5:00, I went to Times Square with a group of my friends to get tickets to see a show called "First Date" that is currently playing on Broadway. After we got tickets, we got some pizza of course!
The show was great. It was very modern and not a typical Broadway musical but it was very entertaining and very real. It has one of my favorite actresses in it, one who I actually passed on the street last week, Krysta Rodriguez. She was in the Addams Family and Smash and a lot of other shows as well. She is brilliantly talented! Her co-star is Zachary Levi. He is probably most known for being the voice of Flynn Rider in "Tangled". He was great too. And so cute I can't even deal...... We were going to wait around at the stage door to meet the cast but it's that time of the year again when all the Broadway shows take donations and stuff for BC/EFA (Broadway Cares/ Equity Fights Aids) and they were selling opportunities for people to pay to take pictures with Krysta and Zachary on the stage after the show so we would have had to wait a while. But I think we may go back later this week and try to catch them after one of their shows.
It was a really fun night and I still can't believe that I live here........ It blows my mind everyday.
Tomorrow I'm going to sleep in again of course, but later in the afternoon I'm going to Times Square Church with my friend Meg. I'm so excited to meet new people in a new church! I've been looking forward to it all week.
"In all things we know that we are more than conquerors. You keep us by your love! How high? How wide? No matter where I am healing is in your hands. How deep? How strong? Now by your grace I stand, healing is in your hands."
These are the lyrics of the song I am listening to while I am reading Jesus Calling for today. It says:
"Come to Me when you are hurting, and I will soothe your pain. Come to Me when you are joyful, and I will share your joy, multiplying it many times over. I am All you need, just when you need it. Your deepest desires find fulfillment in Me alone.
This is the age of self-help. Bookstores abound with books about "taking care of number one," making oneself the center of all things. The main goal of these methodologies is to become self-sufficient and confident. You, however, have been called to take a "road less traveled": continual dependence on Me. True confidence comes from knowing you are complete in My presence. Everything you need has its counterpart in Me."
It then lists 2 verses:
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:5"
"Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. James 1:4"
God is amazing isn't he? That passage is so appropriate to exactly where I am in my life right now. So much of the business I am in is about me. No one else. I would be lying if I said it wasn't easy to make it about myself all the time. It is hard to remember that without God, nothing is possible. It is even harder because it's not like I am surrounded by people that are passionate about god. It's a tough world up here in NYC. In every single way. I mean I got attacked by a hobo yesterday for crying out loud! Haha. It's not only a tough world up here but it is a lost world. I wake up every morning and I pray "God, let your will be done in me". I have no idea what each day brings. I don't know who is watching me or listening to me. And that comes from every aspect. Not only from a professional, business-related aspect because we never know what kind of agent or casting director is walking around the building. But I also mean it in a personal way. I have talked to quite a few people about being a christian and that I have a personal relationship with God. And boy do I get some great looks back sometimes haha. A lot of the people around me don't believe in God. They want nothing to do with Christianity. That is painful to see but I know all I can do is plant that seed and from that point on it is all in God's hands. I just have to set a good example. That's hard! I really have to watch what I say and do around anyone because I don't want people to be turned away and relate my wrong actions with being a christian.
Well, on that note, I'm going to get some sleep!
Goodnight!
Thanks,
Molly

The Weekend Has Arrived!
Hey everyone!
It's Friday and I could not be happier! I absolutely loved this past week of classes but it wore me out! I get to sleep in tomorrow and it's going to be awesome. Today I had classes starting at 11. I had my Voice Produciton and Speech class (VPS) first. We did yoga and it was so hard. Haha. I've never done it before in my life. Apparently neither had a lot of people in my class because most of them almost threw up. Thankfully, I'm a little more in shape than that and didn't come close to dying. But it was still so hard! The funny thing is that my teacher is this huge bald guy that looks like he should ride a motorcycle and here he is doing yoga. It's great. Although it was difficult I felt so warmed up afterwards. My voice was warm and I felt great! After VPS, I had acting. It was fun we just practiced our scenes. Then last, I had ballet. I was really scared that it was going to be super hard because my jazz class was so hard and scary. But my teacher is super nice and personable and I can tell that she absolutely loves what she does. I enjoyed that ballet class more than any ballet class I have ever been to. I am really excited about next week! Also, the classroom is on the 4th floor and it looks out over the Hudson River and Jersey. It's a great view.
After ballet, I went to get chinese with some friends because we wanted to reward ourselves and relax! It was really fun just being able to kick back and have fun for a couple of hours. After dinner, we walked Meg back to her dorm which is on 85th. Then we decided to go to Times Square just because. It was really fun. Really crowded as always. But fun. So basically I walked from 61st to 78th, then from 78th to 85th, while having to take some crazy detours because apparently the president is in town and staying on 81st. So the entire block was blocked off and you couldn't even walk anywhere near it. Straight up inconvenient. Then we went from 85th back to 70th to get a coat and drop off some of our stuff. Then from 70th to 42nd. Then back to 70th. Yeah. A lot of walking today! But it was very fun to get to enjoy the city a little bit!
After I got back I came up to my room and watched my dance recital DVD that I got in the mail this morning. It came in a package of mostly cereal. Thanks mom! Now I'm off to bed for the night and I don't plan on setting an alarm.
Goodnight!

Time Flies When You're Having Fun
Hey everyone!
It's Thursday night and I am exhausted! I didn't have a class until 11:00 this morning but I didn't finish until 6:30. Wednesday and Thursday are my longest days. One thing that I have noticed today is that even in the past 4 days of classes, I have gotten 100 times more confident. Confidence is something that is basically preached here at AMDA. In every dance class we step forward and say our name like we would in an audition. I never knew that someone could tell so much about you in 5 seconds. I must say, I've never been the over confident person. I consider myself very chill and chill doesn't fly when it comes to stating your name to a casting director. Everything is so specific! I'm so happy they are making us do this everyday though because it is becoming second nature and it will make us stand out at an audition.
Yesterday (Wednesday) in my musical theatre class we had all been assigned the same song to perform. "Feeling Good". It was originally a showtune but recently Michael Buble and Jennifer Hudson covered it so it's very popular. We were told to not worry about the vocals. Just know it well enough to sing it while acting out a story. We had to make up a circumstance that fit the song. A real event that has happened in our life or something we hope will happen or maybe hope will not happen. I will be the first to tell you that when it comes to performing scenes and songs in a classroom setting, it can get extremely boring. But yesterday everyone did such an amazing job that I couldn't keep my eyes off of whoever was performing! My teacher, Kathy, cried almost every time someone performed. Her only instruction was "be honest". To see everyone have this break through in acting was amazing. I felt like it was some of the best acting I have ever done in my life and I felt so accomplished at the end of it. Yesterday was definitely a break through for me acting-wise.
Today, I had 4 classes just as I did yesterday. The first one was film lab which is literally watching clips of Broadway shows and Tony performances. It's literally a class of what I do every day on YouTube. I am obsessed with it already! Then I had Voice Production and Speech. My teacher is super intimidating and I don't really know what to think of him or that class yet. It's all very new to me so I don't know what to expect. Then I had Jazz. My teachers name is Casey Colgan. He is an amazing performer and has been doing so professionally for years. He was actually the one who was in my audition behind the table. So that was cool. He is very up front and honest about everything. Which is a great thing but it's also a scary thing. Performers are sensitive but we have to pretend like we have thick skin. I do have pretty thick skin. Thankfully, he didn't say anything negative to me. Haha. He actually said I was good. I have figured out that even if I mess up if I just keep smiling and keep trying, everyone likes it. Haha. That class kicked my butt though. It was so tiring. I thought I was gonna die by the end of it. I'm in the highest level of all of my dance classes so all of the teachers expect us to be awesome. It wasn't too much for me to handle, I'm just not used to having a 2 hour, high intensity dance class with no break. Haha. I'll definitely be sore tomorrow. My last class of the day was sight singing. It's very easy so far and my teacher is so nice.
Also, I'm only typing this because I know my mom will want to know, I am making AWESOME friends here. Everyone is so nice. My group is amazing and so talented and I love being around them all the time. No one is competitive. Everyone is supportive and encouraging to one another and that just makes me so happy. It is a very warm and friendly environment.
Now I'm back in my dorm, I did some homework and I'm ready for bed! Not as long of a day tomorrow. And then it's the weekend!! I'm hoping I can see a show Saturday night instead of going to a halloween party. I don't feel like buying a costume. I would much rather buy a ticket to a show.
Everyday I wake up to a painting of a verse on the wall beside my bed. It states:
"I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:14
What a great daily reminder that nothing I am doing is for myself. It is all for God. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for Him. He has called on me to minister to the people I am around. I just happen to be in the most populated city in the country. I would greatly appreciate it if you could all pray for me. Pray that I can set a good example to the people I am around and that I carry His name to the city of New York.
Goodnight all!
Thanks!

First Days of Classes
Hey everyone!
The past two days have been a whirlwind of fun! I started classes yesterday. I had acting and Musical Theatre. They were so much fun and my teachers are awesome! My acting teacher is a working actor and director his name is Robert Manning Jr. He has been on a ton of different TV shows and in a lot of movies. He's pretty awesome I must say. My musical theatre teacher is really cool too. She has been in numerous Broadway musicals as well as other things. The cool thing about my muscial theatre class is that we have an accompanist that is always in our class. So we have access to a great pianist/voice teacher every single class. I went to sleep super early last night too which was awesome. I got 10 hours of sleep!
Today I had my only 8am of the entire week (how did I get so lucky?!). It was my first tap class. 2 hours of tap in heels is very painful. Haha. I'm not used to tapping in character taps, I'm used to flat taps so I will definitely have to get used to this. I love my tap class. I'm in the highest level of tap offered for first semesters which is so cool. There are only 9 people in my class! My teacher is awesome. She was a rockette and has been in national tours and other regional theatre productions as well.
After tap I had my second musical theatre class of the week (I have 3 total). It was a lot of fun. We did mostly improv stuff just so they could get to know us and what we are passionate about.
After musical theatre which was 2 1/2 hours long today, (only 2 hours yesterday) I went to the lobby and coincidentally checked my email as I got there and was talking to some friends and saw an email from my voice teacher that said my lesson was at 12:30 on Tuesdays. Well, it was 12:28. And it's Tuesday. So I RAN up 4 flights of stairs and found the room and walked in at 12:30 exactly. Haha. My voice teacher's name is Elizabeth Moulton. She is amazing and so nice. I really think I will improve a lot under her instruction. She is all about singing healthy which is exactly what I want.
My voice lesson was an hour long. So I left around 1:30, went back to the dorm and practiced a scene from my acting class with my scene partner. Then practiced a song from my MT class. Then ate some poptarts and watched YouTube videos. Haha. I have to keep track of how much time I spend rehearsing and researching things because we have to do practicum which basically means we have to have a certain amount of hours of rehearsal and growth every week.
Now I'm writing this blog and chilling out listening to country music as always. I've gotta go practice some tap stuff later with some of the people in my class. But other than that, I'm probably not gonna do much and go to bed early again today!
I found a great verse today that I would like to share with you:
"Lord, even wen I have trouble all around me, you will keep me alive." Psalm 138:7
That verse is amazing because as I live each day in this city, new struggles appear, big or small, I know that God is always in control and that I can trust him and cast all of my worries and struggles upon him because he knows what is best for me.
I think I'm gonna end it there for today!
Thanks!
Molly

Days Three and Four
Hey everyone!
So I had a pretty busy day yesterday and didn't get to post. Sorry!
Yesterday I had my singing and acting placement pretty early in the morning. They went well I think! I think they really liked me and I actually didn't screw up my song which is surprising since it was so early. Haha. The monologue went well too! I was very glad to get that over with cause I was pretty nervous.
After placement, I ate frosted flakes, listened to country music, and took a nap as a reward. Haha. Then I went with my group to Columbus Circle which was so much fun! I love my group. Every other group doesn't seem very close but ours is. We're all becoming really good friends which is awesome!
Then later last night all the first semesters and transfers got to go to Peter and the Starcatcher at New World Stages which is an off-broadway theatre. I had seen it on Broadway a year or so ago and it's one of my favorite shows. It's still so funny and well done! We had a talk back with the cast after but it didn't last very long because apparently we laughed and clapped so much the show ran about 10 minutes longer than it usually does! I guess that's a good thing.
After the talk back, we headed home. It's about 30 blocks from the dorm so it was a long walk back. Me and my friend Brianna were walking together and for some reason I wasn't thinking and we walked one block too far (went to Central Park West instead of turning on Broadway). But I'm very glad we did because as we were about to cross Broadway, I saw someone who looked really familiar and realized it was Annasophia Robb! From Bridge to Teribithia, Soul Surfer, Carrie (the TV show). Apparently they were filming at Lincoln Center yesterday and she was just out getting dinner I guess. She was still in her Carrie costume and makeup and hair. I tapped her on the arm as she walked by the throw something away and told her I was a big fan and she was so casual and nice. It was really cool. Way too casual for me to even understand. Haha. Also, earlier in the day I was crossing 70th and Broadway and walked right past Krysta Rodgriguez who is a big Broadway actress. She is currently in "First Date" but she was also in "Addams Family" and other stuff. She was also on "Smash" the second season. She play Katharine Mcphee's character's best friend. So that was also cool.
This morning I had to wake up pretty early to get ready for dance placements. It took a long time because we had 3 separate ones for Jazz, Ballet, and Tap. It was really tedious but I think I did pretty well! I got placed in the highest level of every style! (There are 4 different levels for first sememsters). We got out of placement around 1:30 so me and my friends went to this awesome pizza place really close to our dorm. I forget what it's called but it's on 71st and Broadway. Next time you're here, check it out. It's really cheap and really good!
Anyways, now I'm settled down in my dorm! I'm pretty tired but we have one more meeting or something tonight around 5:00 I think so that's what I'll be doing!
Thanks!

Day Two
Hey guys!
So today was a long day but really fun! Much better today than yesterday. We had a lot of seminars and stuff so a lot of sitting and talking and boring stuff. But we also did fun things too like go to Boston Market and Central Park. So that was really great. I then went to dinner with a mutual friend who is in the business. She was so sweet and I'm SO happy to have met her! (Shoutout to Grace for being awesome!)
Tomorrow we have placements for singing and acting. I go at 8:30 and should be done no later than 10:30. So I will be coming right back to the dorm and take a nice long nap! I am so excited about it already. Haha. And then later tomorrow night, we are going to see Peter and the Starcatcher! I love that show and I'm very excited to see it again!
Anyways,
I'm going to bed now! Gotta get a good night sleep. Big day tomorrow!
Thanks!
Molly

Day One
Hello!
So it is the end of day one! It has been a very long day. VERY LONG! I'm so exhausted. But now, we are all settled in and ready for bed. The room is not as cramped as I thought it would be. My roommate is super nice and so is her family. They live 30 minutes out of the city so that is really nice to know. But let me just say, it REALLY hit me today. That I am here. And my family is not. Saying bye to my parents was so hard. I have literally been crying all day. Even before they left. This is not going to be easy at all I'm sure! I could really use a lot of prayer right now.
But on the bright side, this school is AWESOME and everyone is so nice! Also, another highlight of my day, I was walking back to the dorm tonight right before saying goodbye to my family and I looked in a froyo place and saw someone I thought I recognized. I looked again and realized it was Sierra Boggess, otherwise known as Ariel from Little Mermaid on Broadway, Christine in Phantom, and many others. So I went in and talked to her for a minute just saying that I was a big fan and that she's super talented. She probably thought I was super creepy but she was really nice and I'm glad she took the time to say a few words. It was a really great pick-me-up from the homesickness.
If there is anything I miss as much as my family right now, it's the south. Huntsville. Never in my life would I ever have though I would say those words. But it's true. I really truly miss it. So much. Especially sweet tea because New Yorkers don't believe in it.
Anyways, I'm about to go to bed because I've got an early morning tomorrow. If anyone who reads this wouldn't mind praying for me for these next few weeks. I'm really really homesick already and my parents have been gone for an hour.
Thanks!
Molly

Where Has The Time Gone?
I guess I must have blinked or something because it seems like last week I was starting my freshman year of high school. Time really does fly. The past few months have been so strange. I have watched all of my friends go off to college and begin this new chapter of their lives. I knew all along that I am going to do the same thing, it's just a little delayed. I would always tell people that I wasn't leaving until October, never thinking October would ever actually get here. But, here it is. October 14th is the big day! It is not only the day I leave for New York City, but it is also my best friend's birthday. Happy birthday Ashley! I'm leaving for a far away land for a really long time. What a great present. Haha.
2 months ago, I was no where close to being ready to leave. Now I feel like I have had time to collect myself and prepare for this crazy new life I'm about to embark on! (I hate that I just ended a sentence in a preposition...... oh well.) I've had a lot of time with my family which has been so great.
Although I can say, I was productive during my 5 month long summer break. I got certified as a personal trainer on my own time. I thought it would be a good way to pay the bills rather than waiting tables while I'm trying get a break! So there's that.
Oh, and our house flooded. Minuscule turn of events that happened about 3 weeks ago. And we still have no floors in our house. Some hose under our sink exploded in the middle of the night. Thankfully, I never go to sleep at a decent hour and discovered it after only an hour's worth of damage (1/2 inch of water). It could have been much worse! The reason the hose disconnected or exploded or whatever happened to it, is because the last plumber that worked on it forgot to tighten a valve. Honest mistake. But I keep telling my parents they could sue and pay for my college! (Completely kidding. Kind of). The timing of it all worked out though because they are scheduled to install all of the flooring next week! When we're not home. Which will be great to not have to deal with.
Anyways, since I am finally about to leave, I thought I would take this time to thank everyone in my life. My family, my friends, my teachers, you have NO IDEA how much of an impact you have had on my life. I would not be who I am without all of your support and love and everything in between positive and negative. I hope I make you all proud!
Last thing, the song I am currently listening to is "Carry Your Name" by Christy Nockels. So appropriate.
"I will carry your name! Carry your name, Jesus your name forever! For all of my days in all of my ways, Jesus your name forever!"
Someone who is such an inspiration in my life who I have known for a very long time reminded me this past week that I am going into a business that does not value Christ and that I need to stay grounded and stay strong in my faith. It was so good to hear someone besides my mom say that to me. I will definitely live to carry the name of Jesus into this amazing city. Yes, I am going to school. But I am also a disciple for Christ Jesus!
I'm just gonna end on that note. :)
Love,
Molly
